Ferris State Basketball To Unveil New Uniforms

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's basketball teams will feature a "new look" when they take the floor for the first time in 2011-12 for exhibition games this weekend.

Both the Bulldog men's and women's squads will be sporting new Nike uniforms that reflect the university's transition to the official school colors of Crimson (Ferris Red) and Gold.

The Bulldogs will wear the crimson-colored uniforms with gold and white trim on the road while showcasing the traditional white uniforms with official university-approved crimson and gold trim for all home contests.

Ferris State's women's basketball team opens exhibition play at NCAA Divison I Oakland University on Saturday (Oct. 29) at 1 p.m. (ET) while the men's team will square off against one of the nation's most prominent programs in the Michigan State Spartans on Sunday (Oct. 30) at 2 p.m. (ET) in East Lansing.

""Over the past several years, there has been an interest and desire on the part of our athletics department, the University and our alumni for our Bulldog teams to wear uniforms that more closely represent our true school colors of Crimson (Ferris Red) and Gold," said FSU Athletics Director Perk Weisenburger.  "We are excited about this new direction and we are pleased that our men's and women's basketball teams are the first Bulldog teams to begin the transition  this season.

"This weekend, when our teams take the floor against Division I competition, they will be wearing a new Ferris Red and Gold uniform by Nike.   When we play at home in Wink Arena, our fans will enjoy watching the Bulldogs in action wearing the traditional white uniform with Ferris Red and Gold trim," he added.

Both the Ferris State men's and women's basketball programs are also excited about the new look.

"We are eager to sport our brand-new Ferris Red uniforms as we open up at Oakland University tomorrow," said FSU women's basketball head coach Tracey Dorow.  "Our true Crimson Ferris color is very bright and we want to play with the energy that color exudes.  It's a tremendous change and one that will take us back to our official Ferris State University colors.  Our top priority is to represent Bulldog Athletics well and it certainly doesn't hurt to look good at the same time."

Tenth-year FSU men's basketball head coach Bill Sall echoed those sentiments.

"We're thankful and excited about the opportunity to showcase a new team and a new season with new uniforms," he said.  "It's exciting to help lead the transition back to the official color scheme and we're working hard to prepare our team to play as well as the new uniforms look."

The basketball teams will be the first to incorporate the new look with other Bulldog teams expected to follow in the coming years.

"Additional Bulldog teams will be transitioning to this new look through their normal uniform purchasing cycle," Weisenburger said.  "No specific timetable has been established, but it is our intent to have all of our teams in new uniforms within the next two years."

Sunday's men's basketball contest will be carried live online by the Big Ten Network.com and fans can watch the television replay of the event and view the new uniforms on Monday (Oct. 31) when the game airs on the Big Ten Network TV channel at 4 p.m. (ET).
