Keenan Earns Second-Straight GLIAC Honor

Big Rapids, Mich. - Ferris State University junior forward/center Justin Keenan was honored Monday (Jan. 25) for the second consecutive week as the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) North Division Player of the Week Award recipient.

The consensus NCAA Division II Preseason All-America honoree averaged 18 points and nine rebounds in two games this past week as the Bulldogs increased their winning streak to four-straight league victories, all of which came on the road.

Keenan netted a game-high 19 points and 12 rebounds in a double-double effort during FSU's thrilling 54-52 conference triumph over Wayne State on Thursday (Jan. 21) in Detroit, which represented Ferris' first win over the Warriors in the Motor City since the 1994-95 season. He then tallied 17 points with six rebounds and three assists in the Bulldogs' 86-73 league victory at Northwood on Saturday (Jan. 23). Keenan shot over 50% from the floor in both games and converted 16-of-20 free throws in the two contests.  Additionally, he also notched his 500th career rebound against the Timberwolves in Saturday's contest.

This week's selection came on the heels of last week's recognition and represents the fourth time in his career Keenan's received the GLIAC weekly award.

Presently this year, Keenan ranks third in the league in field goal percentage (.555) and offensive rebounds (2.7 pg.), tied for third in scoring (18.4 ppg.) and ninth in total rebounding (6.4 rpg.) to date.  Keenan has reached double-figure scoring in 16 of 17 games this season along with 67 of 72 career outings. The 2009-10 Preseson All-GLIAC selection has tallied 10 points or more in 44 of his last 46 contests.

Keenan led the GLIAC in scoring (20.2 ppg.) while ranking second in offensive rebounds (3.4 rpg.), fourth in rebounding (7.3 rpg.) and fourth in field goal percentage (.546) in 2008-09. He also made and attempted more free throws (180-237) than any other player in the league last season for the second-straight year. Keenan reached double-figure scoring in 24 of his 25 games and totaled 20 points or more in 14 outings a year ago, including a career-high 33 points versus Olivet (Nov. 25), en route to earning team MVP honors for the second-straight year.

In 72 career contests to date, Keenan has recorded 1,298 points and 501 rebounds while starting 69 career games. His 441 made free throws (457-615) currently ranks sixth on the school's career leaders list.

This year, Keenan was named a NCAA Division II Preseason All-America selection by three different sources, including being tabbed to the Division II Bulletin “Super 16” Preseason squad. He also claimed acclaim from both The Sporting News and Basketball Times. Keenan was honored last season as a National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division II All-Midwest District Second Team pick along with a Daktronics All-Midwest Region Second Team and All-GLIAC North Division First Team selection. He became the 26th player in school history to notch his 1,000th career point in this year's season opener at Lewis (Nov. 15).

The Bulldog men's basketball team will try to keep its winning streak alive by returning home to host Northern Michigan and Michigan Tech in league play this week at Jim Wink Arena.  FSU faces NMU on Thursday (Jan. 28) at 8 p.m. (EST) before hosting the Huskies on Saturday (Jan. 30) in a 3 p.m. (EST) tilt.  Tickets will be available at the door.

Both of this week's games can be heard live locally on WBRN 1460 AM & 107.7 FM or a live audio/video pay-per-view webcast will also be provided by B2 Networks for both games along with live internet statistics.  Visit www.ferrisstatebulldogs.com for all available links.
