Big Rapids, Mich. - For the fifth consecutive year, the Ferris State University men's and women's basketball teams teamed up to help raise funds for the local Special Olympics program.

The Bulldog basketball teams recently competed in the fifth annual charity Heart-to-Heart and Hand-in-Hand Special Olympics Benefit Game this past Tuesday (April 13) evening at FSU's Jim Wink Arena in Big Rapids, Mich. The event was organized and sponsored by the Ferris Professional Recreation Association and Gamma Epsilon Tau.

The FSU student-athletes were split into two competing teams made up of both Bulldog men's and women's players along with local Special Olympics Area 5 athletes. The crimson team registered a narrow win over the white squad in the contest.

All donations and proceeds received from the event went to support the Special Olympics of Michigan and funds help provide uniforms, equipment, food, transportation, and tournament fees for the special olympics athletes.

This year's event also included a silent auction, special halftime events along with various raffles and prizes as part of the evening activities.

Ferris State concluded the 2009-10 men's basketball campaign with a 16-13 overall record and the Bulldogs placed tied for second (13-9) in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) North Division play. In addition, FSU made its 11th GLIAC Tournament appearance and fifth in the last six years. This year also represented the eighth consecutive year the Bulldogs have won 10 or more games.

The Ferris State women's basketball team concluded the 2009-10 season with an 8-19 overall record.  The Bulldogs were 7-15 in GLIAC action and are eligible to return their entire roster intact next season after winning their final two regular-season contests.
