Big Rapids, Mich. - Ferris State University senior quarterback Reggie Bell has been tabbed as this week's Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Offensive Player of the Week following his standout performance on Saturday (Sept. 9) night in the Bulldogs' season opener.
Bell had a huge showing in lifting the #2 Bulldogs to a decisive 48-27 road win over Findlay in non-league action at UF's Donnell Stadium in Findlay, Ohio. In the victory, Bell ran for a FSU career-best 216 yards and four touchdowns on the ground while also completing 14-of-21 (66.7%) passes for 206 yards and a score in the triumph.
The Preseason All-American opened the game with an 85-yard touchdown run on FSU's first official offensive play and later added two more first half scores as FSU built a 31-13 halftime lead. He also had a 56-yard TD pass to Malik Taylor in the opening half.
Overall, Bell engineered seven FSU scoring drives in the contest and helped the Bulldogs roll up 653 total offensive yards in the game, including 413 on the ground.
A year ago, Bell led all Division II quarterbacks in the country in rushing yardage, marking the fifth-straight year in which a FSU QB had accomplished the feat.
This week, Ferris State will host the Northern Michigan Wildcats in its 2017 home opener on Saturday, Sept. 16, at Top Taggart Field. Kickoff for teh Hall of Fame Game is set for 7 p.m. (ET).
