Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University Athletics Department and the Bulldog football program will help celebrate the 20th anniversary of "The Streak" as part of this Saturday's (Oct. 12) festivities involving the Anchor-Bone Classic matchup between FSU and rival Grand Valley State at Top Taggart Field.
"The Streak" was a 42-game regular season unbeaten streak (40-0-2) from 1992-96 during which time Ferris State won five Midwest Intercollegiate Football Conference (MIFC) championships, recorded three-straight undefeated regular seasons and appeared in the NCAA Division II Playoffs five consecutive years. Ferris State began "The Streak" in 1992 with a 21-3 win over Wayne State and the unbeaten conference stretch continued into the 1996 season. Among the memorable highlight wins from the stretch was a 46-42 home win over Saginaw Valley State in 1995 during which time Ferris State trailed 28-0 after one quarter before rallying from behind to cap the greatest comeback in NCAA Division II football history.
"The Streak" also included a 3-0-1 mark versus GVSU as the Bulldogs shutout the Lakers 23-0 in 1992 and posted back-to-back wins of 27-21 in 1994 and 30-21 in 1995 after a 17-17 tie in the '93 campaign.
In addition to the Bulldogs' 42-game regular season unbeaten streak, FSU also had a 41-game MIFC unbeaten string (39-0-2) and a 27-game conference win streak during the same stretch.
