FSU Lift-A-Thon & First Spring Practice March 23
Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University football program will officially open spring practice drills and hold its 30th annual Lift-A-Thon fundraising event as part of a special night of activities on Friday, March 23.
The 30th annual Lift-A-Thon, which serves as a primary fundraiser for the Bulldog Football Program and is operated in conjunction with the FSU Gridiron Club and the Bulldog Athletic Association, is open to the public free of charge and will begin at 5 p.m. (ET) inside FSU's Jim Wink Arena.
For the first time, this year's Lift-A-Thon will also coincide with the first spring practice under first-year head coach Tony Annese, which will take place under the lights at Top Taggart Field beginning at 9 p.m. (ET).
All parents, fans, alumni and students are invited and encouraged to attend both events. Prizes and food will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
A new format will take place as part of this year's Lift-A-Thon. The event will feature 10 teams of players with each sponsored by a campus residence hall and selected by a team captain via a draft format. Each of the 10 players on the team will participate in one of the events, which include the bench max, 20-yard dash, 225 bench repititions, the pro agility run and an obstacle course.
Along with the athletic competitions, two other competitions will be judged and include attendance by residence halls along with a talent show/endzone dance. In an effort to encourage student participation, the residence hall with the best attendance will receive a ping pong table, foosball table or XBox 360.
The Lift-A-Thon, which was developed in 1982, operates under the FSU Gridiron Club and the Bulldog Athletic Association with contributions to the Lift-A-Thon directly benefiting the Bulldog football program. For more information and/or to make a donation to the Ferris State Football Lift-A-Thon event, please contact Gary Wendlowsky at (231) 591-2827 or email: GridironClub@ferris.edu.
The opening spring practice is the first of an NCAA-allotted total of 15 practices, which will be capped by the annual Crimson & Gold Spring game on Saturday, April 14, at 12 p.m. (ET) at Top Taggart Field.
