FSU "Hoops & Hockey" At Home This Week

Big Rapids, Mich. - It's "Hoops & Hockey" this week in Big Rapids as the Ferris State University Athletics Department hosts six events over a three-day span inside the Ewigleben Sports Complex.

The Bulldog women's and men's basketball teams open up the action by hosting the Hillsdale Chargers in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) doubleheader on Thursday (Feb. 4) evening at Jim Wink Arena. The women's contest tips off at 6 p.m. (EST) followed by the men's game at 8 p.m. (EST).

On Friday (Feb. 5), the nationally-ranked Bulldog hockey team opens up a Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) home series versus the Northern Michigan Wildcats with faceoff set for 7:05 p.m. (EST) at the Ewigleben Ice Arena.

Finally, Saturday (Feb. 6) features a home tripleheader with all three teams in action. FSU hosts the Findlay Oilers in GLIAC women's basketball play at 12 p.m. (EST) with the Bulldog men battling the defending NCAA Division II National Champions at 2 p.m. (EST). FSU hockey wraps up the day in the series' finale against NMU with the puck drop set for 7:35 p.m. (EST) and the contest slated to be televised live by FS Detroit Plus.

A variety of promotional activites and events will also coincide with the homestand.

Thursday's basketball doubleheader represents the school's annual "Pink Wave Night" contest in support of breast cancer awareness and a Greek Olympics competition will also be held. Meanwhile, Saturday's home hoops action includes special halftime performances from a barbershop quartet group called X-position, which is part of the award-winning Grand Rapids Chapter of Sweet Adelines chorus.  The performance is being conducted through the local area's Festival of the Arts activities.

Saturday's basketball doubleheader will also feature "Community Health Day" with free informational tables available on a variety of health-related issues, including diabetes, immunizations, hypertension and oral health. Additionally, free screenings will be held for things such as diabetes, glaucoma, oral cancer, blood pressure and blood glucose.  The event will take place from 12:45 to 3:15 p.m. (EST).

The 2 for 22 and 3 for 33 ticket packages will be offered for both of this weekend's hockey games while Saturday's hockey game also represents Meijer Family Night.

FSU students are encouraged to wear jerseys for Friday’s hockey game and trucker hats for Saturday's tilt. Friday's hockey contest represents Registered Student Organization Night with over 12 campus RSO's in attendance to present information on their respective groups out in the main corridor. All fans in attendance at Saturday's hockey game will receive a free rally towel.
